welcome to Sumter High School

Inclement Weather Update:

School District officials have been in close contact with local emergency management officials to monitor the weather. Currently, all weather and road conditions are favorable. While we plan to dismiss at the regular time, all after-school activities for students and staff members are cancelled

Due to freezing temperatures overnight and the potential for icy road conditions, Sumter School District will open on a two-hour delay for students and staff on Thursday, January 18. Breakfast will not be served.

Schools will open two hours later than their normal start times. Students who ride a school bus should report to their bus stops two hours later than usual.

We remain mindful of the safety of our students and staff, and we will continue to monitor the weather conditions.

The start dates for Central Carolina Dual Enrollment classes for Spring 2018 are as follows:

*All online classes will begin Tuesday, January 16, 2018.

*All Face-to-Face Classes at CCTC – the semester begins Tuesday, January 16,  2018.

*All Face-to-Face Classes within Sumter County School District will begin Monday, January 22, 2018.

*All classes will end Wednesday, May 2, 2018.

Dual enrollment students need to check their D2L for updates on start dates and etc…

Inclement Weather Make-Up Days: The following are inclement weather makeup days for Sumter School District: January 19 (due to Hurricane Irma), February 19 (due to snow/ice day), and March 29 (due to snow/ice day). These days were previously listed as in-service/workdays and are listed on our calendar for inclement weather makeup days. The Board voted last night to waive the third day that was missed due to the snow/ice.

State law mandates that school districts use the inclement weather days indicated on their calendars as makeup days. School districts are required to make up the first three days. If more than three days are missed, the local school board of trustees, by a majority vote, may waive no more than three days.

We are shifting the dates for End-of-Course testing and high school exams to accommodate the weather cancellations.  High school exams will move to January 18 and 19, and End-of-Course testing will move to the 11th, 12th, 16th, and 17th. As a reminder, January 18 and 19 are full days for student attendance.

Juniors and Seniors have the option to rent a used Chromebook for $20.00 after October 16th, based on what is available.  (The three year purchase plan will not apply to Juniors & Seniors.)
