Due to the abundance of caution, Sumter School District will be closed on Monday, August 21, due to the solar eclipse. All after school activities will also be cancelled. The day will be made up with a half day of attendance for students on Friday, October 20, previously scheduled as an in-service day.
The first day of school will now be Tuesday, August 22, and will be a full day.
Employees will work on Monday from 8:00 – 11:30 am.
Normal School Day Hours – 8:40 am to 3:45 pm
First Day of School – TUESDAY, AUGUST 22nd and will be a full day.
Class Schedules are to be picked up in front of the guidance office from 9:00 – 11:30 am and 1:00 – 3:30 pm as follows:
All class fees must be paid during the first two weeks of school.
Students or their parents must pay for lost or damaged textbooks from the past year before any additional textbooks can be issued.
Forms of payment accepted: cash, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or make checks payable to Sumter High School. See Mrs. Hodge in the accounting office.
HIGH SCHOOL HONORS SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Students enrolled in honors level English courses should read the following novels critically over the summer in preparation for the class they are about to take:
English 1 Honors The Pearl, John Steinbeck AND novel of your choice
English 2 Honors A Separate Peace, John Knowles AND novel of your choice
English 3 Honors The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne AND novel of your choice
English 4 Honors/AP/IB Lord of the Flies, William Golding AND novel of your choice IB English Oedipus Rex, Sophocles AND Poetics, Aristotle
