Spearman Announces First Finalist for Teacher of the Year - Suzanne Koty

State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced the first of five finalists for South Carolina’s prestigious Teacher of the Year award.

“Being a finalist for this award is a great achievement that should be celebrated,” said Spearman from Sumter High School.  “This will be a truly memorable week as I try to meet each finalist in person and share the exciting news with them.  This is a wonderful opportunity for local communities to celebrate the success we see in our public schools every day by recognizing these five finalists,” concluded Spearman.

Congratulations Wrestlers!

Congratulations to SHS wrestlers, Mac Mota and David Pringle, Mac won a state title and David came in second at the state wrestling competition this past weekend.

Congratulations Gamecock Basketball 4A Lower State Champions!
Congratulations to the Sumter High Boys basketball team as they defeated James Island 48-44 to advance to the 4A state championship game on Friday. The game will begin @ 8:30 and will be played at the Colonial Center. Advanced tickets will be on sale in the Commons Area during lunch Wednesday and Thursday. Tickets are $10.00. There will be a free fan bus but you must sign up by Thursday.  See Mrs. Richardson for details.


Congratulations to the SHS Drama Club

Congratulations to the Drama Club for their accomplishments at the Palmetto Dramatics Association and Thespians Competitions this past weekend. Out of all the students who attended the competition, McKenzie Quinn-Barnett, Sarah Louise McInnis, Emma Houck, Amber Coulter and Emma Townsend received an achievement award that allows them to advance to the International Thespian Festival this June in Lincoln, Nebraska. James Riggs also received an Excellence in Acting award for his performance in the show, Controlling Interest, which received honorary mentions. 


Congratulations SHS Choir Students
Three students from the Sumter High Choir will be participating in All-State Chorus.  Over 2,000 students from across the state audition for spots in these two choirs.  Representing Sumter High will be Kornelius BetheaDeshawn Thomas and Deontrae Charles.  Please congratulate them if you get a chance.  All-State Weekend concludes Saturday with a public concert at 3:00 PM at Byrnes Auditorium on the campus of Winthrop University in Rock Hill.


SHS Art @ USC's Umpteenth Gallery
Several SHS students will feature their art at USC's Umpteenth Gallery.  The art show is free to the public and will be on display March 4 - 31st from 8:30 -5:00 pm.

Jostens 
Attention Seniors - Jostens will be returning to SHS to issue Caps and Gowns on March 18, 2015 from 9:00 - 3:00 pm.


Prom Information: 
Prom is May 2, 2015.  The theme is A Romantic Night in Paris.

Juniors and Seniors may bring a guest to prom as long as the guest is 20 years old or younger AND a full time high school or college student, active duty military or full time firefighter with an approved guest permission form.  Guest permission forms are available in the front office, guidance, and outside of D220. 

Guest permission forms are due April 22, 2015.  There are NO exceptions, so please plan accordingly. 

Ticket sales will begin on March 16 and will be $30 each.  A couple's package may be purchased for $50 until Spring Break.  The couple's package includes 2 tickets.

March 20, 2015 @ 8:30 am Central Carolina Technical College will be administering the ASSET test to those that are interested in taking dual enrollment the 2015-2016 school year, rising juniors and seniors only.  Please sign up in guidance or see your counselor.  Deadline: March 13, 2015 at 4:00 pm.
