Congratulations to Eli Witt for being named to the North-South All Star Tennis Team and to Coach Warren Coker for being named Region 6 Tennis Coach of the Year.

 

Athletic Update

The Boys Track Team won the region meet!  Congrats to the following region champions in their event:

Girls 1600 meter – Lorien Clark

Girls 4 x 400 meter relay 

Boys 100 meter – Shannon Isaac

Boys 110 M hurdles & 400 M hurdles – Kerrion Ramsey

Boys 4 x 100 M Relay

Boys High Jump & Long Jump – Rodney Pitts

Boys Shot Put & Discus Throw – Pressley Harvin

Next for them is the Lower State Qualifier!

Congratulations to the baseball team for defeating Summerville in the playoffs last night 2-1.  They will play for the District Championship on Monday night at home (Time-TBA). Go Gamecocks!


Special Olympics named SHS a Banner Unified Champion School

Special Olympics South Carolina is pleased to announce that Sumter High School was named a Banner Unified Champion School for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for students with and without disabilities. Sumter High School has received this honor as a result of meeting national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect. Sumter High School is among a select number of schools to receive this distinction.

The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools model is supported by the U.S. Department of Education. A Special Olympics Unified Champion School has an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff.  Congratulations Gamecocks!


Congratulations Sumter High School’s Air Force JROTC!

Sumter High School’s Air Force JROTC unit kicked off spring break by taking top honors at the annual Top Gun Drill Meet. This was their third consecutive overall first place finish at a drill meet. Competing against 15 other Junior ROTC units representing all services, Sumter earned 10 trophies in 12 events as well as the trophy for the best Air Force unit and the Governor’s Trophy for the first time in unit history.
