Biology is an essential course for high school students because it introduces them to the forms, functions, and fundamentals of life. This course will count as a laboratory science, so it will contain various survey labs and simple experiments to help reinforce the concepts that are studied in the classroom. Together the lab and class will introduce the students to the basic principles of science and scientific research. Students will not have the time to learn all the minute details; instead they will learn overarching themes and concepts. The course will cover the standards set by the South Carolina Department of Education, and much more. The course has much to cover in little time, but by the end of the semester the students will know how to perform a proper experiment, write basic lab reports, and be generally familiar with general biology concepts.
