RECOGNITION/HONORS
Academic Letters
At Sumter High School, Academic Letters of Honor recognize students in grades 10, 11, and 12 who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and a strong commitment to excellence.
To earn this distinguished recognition, students must meet the following criteria based on the previous high school year:
- GPA Requirement: Earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher
- Course Load: Successfully pass at least 5 academic courses
- Course Eligibility: Courses must be taken in a standard academic setting (students enrolled in modified or pass/fail curricula, including APEX courses, are not eligible)
- Award Timeline: Academic letters are awarded during the second semester in recognition of prior school year performance

Honors and Recognition
District Honor Graduate Requirements
An Honor Graduate must:

Have a GPA of 3.75 or above by the end of the first semester of the senior year

Complete 28 Carnegie Units in CP or Honors courses

Must have a minimum of two AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment courses
Gold Cord Recipient Requirements
To receive a gold cord recipient, student must::

Have a GPA of 3.8 or above by the end of the first semester of the senior year
South Carolina Academic Honors Award Requirements
For this honor, a student must::

Earned their diploma with Academic Honors

Achieved exemplay scores on the SAT or ACT

Scored no lower than a "B" in any of their courses at any point in their entire high school career
