Black Heritage Club – Sponsor Kashia Richardson

Thank you for your interest in the Black Heritage Club. The purpose of the club is to heighten the awareness of contributions made by African Americans in today’s society, to learn to make a positive impact on society through service and to foster a spirit of pride and community in its members while learning about our heritage. The Black Heritage Club has great things planned this year, but we cannot accomplish them without YOU!

The dues for the Club are $5 a month.

Black Heritage Club meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.



Drama Club & International Thespian Society – Sponsor Mr. Melton


Drama Club meets every Tuesday after school until 5:00 pm. in the Drama Room.


First Priority – Sponsor

“The hope of Christ in every student”

First priority is a student-led, faith-based organization that meets for fellowship, Bible study, and community.


Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – Sponsor Torey Shannon 

FBLA is intended to encourage students to learn leadership skills and employability skills.  Dues $20


Interact Club – Sponsor: TBD
The Interact Club is sponsored by the Sumter Sunrise Rotary Club

Our motto is “Service Above Self”.

We raise fundraisers for Pennies for Patients and the “Gift of Life,” and every October, we help the Rotary Club with the 5K at the Rotary Plaza on Main Street.  Other activities, such as the State Interact Convention will be talked about when our President calls the first meeting.


Japanese Culture Club – Sponsor Mr. Carey

Learn how to speak Japanese and explore Japanese culture and history.  Tuesdays at 3:45-5:00 in room C-204


Junior Civitan – Sponsor Mr. Austin

Junior Civitan is a community service organization for students. Junior Civitan members seek to meet the needs of our world and promote progress in a world of change. You can be a part of Sumter High School Junior Civitan club’s commitment to making a difference. Junior Civitan clubs make the world a better place through local projects, outreach programs, volunteering at their schools, and helping people with developmental disabilities. For many years we’ve participated in FunFest, DanceAThon, and other events to raise funds for Cancer Research, Alzheimer’s Research, and Camp Burnt Gin here in Sumter.  If interested in being a part of Junior Civitan please complete the Jr Civitan Membership Application .

Membership is open for all Sumter High School students.  Junior Civitans meet after school on Thursdays in D111.


 

National Honor Society – Sponsor: Christopher Edge

Membership in NHS is both an honor and a responsibility. Seniors and Juniors, who are selected for membership are expected to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Each student who has been at SHS for at least one semester and has achieved an overall 3.9 GPA will be sent a formal application in the Spring with information to join.

Starfish Club – Sponsor Ronda Speed

The Starfish Club participates in monthly “Random Acts of Kindness”.  Meeting Dates will be announced. Please complete the interest form if you are interested in joining the Starfish Club. Sumter High School Key Club International – Sponsor Sharon McQuiller

The SHS Key Club International which is a self-governing, student-led organization, that promotes character and leadership is sponsored by the Sumter Kiwanis.

Motto: Caring – Our Way of Life!  If interested in being a part of Key Club please complete the KEY CLUB APPLICATION .

Meetings are 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month in room D222.


 

Sumter High Book Club – Sponsor Ronda Speed

Interested in joining the SHS Book Club?  If so, complete this form. The Sumter High School Book Club meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 3:45-5:00 pm in the library.   Students must have a ride home.   You can email Mrs. Speed in the library if you would like to participate or have any questions.  Our first meeting will be held on September 11th.  Watch your email for more information.


Student Government Association of Sumter High School – Advisor Katherine Speed

The purpose of the Sumter High School Student Government is to unify the student body, to encourage democracy, to develop good leadership, to promote citizenship, to provide a medium for student expression, to coordinate and improve student activities, to establish a spirit of cooperation among students and faculty members to develop a school orientation program, and to improve inter-school relationships.  Membership of the Sumter High School Student Government consists of officers elected by the student body, representatives, senators appointed by the Student Government Sponsor, the student body vice president-elect, the outgoing student body vice president, parliamentarian, and standing committee chair appointed by the student body president.  All of these members must meet and maintain the qualifications and duties outlined in the Constitution of the Student Government of Sumter High School.  For questions, please email katherine.speed@sumterschools.net.
